Grooming your dog is one of the few things that you just cannot ignore. Whether it’s bathing them regularly, trimming their fur, cutting their nails, there are a lot of things to keep in mind and a lot of things to always follow. Besides, it’s always good to have a dog that smells nice so when you cuddle them or they crawl into bed with you, you’re not shocked by the smell or the dirt everywhere. But more importantly, keeping your dog clean and healthy is good for them and for you.
Bathing Time
While you might think that bathing them every day is a good idea, the truth is that they don’t need to be bathed that frequently. Depending on the breed of dog, the climate where you live and the surroundings and how dirty they get, you can decide how often they need to be bathed. And, this is something that a lot of people might not know, you can’t use regular soap on dogs. There are brands that have specially made shampoos for your dogs, make sure you get your hands on that. If they get dirty from playing outside, just wash them with water and leave it at that.
Brushing Them Down
Whether very hairy or not, brushing your dogs is good for them. It helps prevent skin irritation by removing dead hair, plus brushing your dog also helps control the shedding later on. Again, you need to make sure that you’re using a dog friendly brush, not just any brush you get your hands on. Depending on how much hair your dog has, you’ll need to brush them down more frequently and like a lot of humans, dogs do love getting brushed. And remember to be careful and gentle, so that you don’t hurt them.

Unlike for us, you need to trim your dogs nails quite regularly. And while it’s not something that either of you might enjoy at first, keeping nails short and healthy is very important. But also make sure you learn the best way to trim your dogs nails because it might scare them more than you realize. Make sure you get clippers that are meant for trimming your pets nails, because you can’t just use anything for this. If you can’t do it, you can always find a professional who will and that might be best in some cases.
Cleaning The Ears
Not all dogs like having their ears touched, but it’s important you make sure that your dogs ears are clean and taken care of. Either during a bath or otherwise, you can clean their ears. Again, it’s a process that requires care and proper understanding, because their ears are not exactly like ours.
There is no harm in turning to a professional for help with grooming your dog, but it’s definitely something that you can do at home. It might take time, but if you get your dog used to it from a young age, it becomes a part of their routine. You can also get a professional to walk you through the process, have someone teach you the basics so that you can do it at home as well!
