This happens so often, nobody is really to blame. But when you’re sitting down to eat a meal or you’re enjoying a snack in front of the television, your pet is going to either join you and hope for a bite from the bowl or just sit there and stare till you offer something. But keep in mind that there are certain foods that dogs should never be allowed to eat. It’s not just about it getting stuck, but it’s also about food being poisonous for the animal. Most of us don’t even realize how the most common of human foods can be harmful for our dogs. So take a quick look at this list and make sure that next time you’re enjoying it, you don’t get suckered into feeding your dog just because they looked up at you with those adoring eyes.

Chocolate
What most of us don’t know is that chocolate and other cocoa-based products have something called “theobromine” which is incredibly harmful to dogs. So if you feed your dog a bit of dark chocolate every now and then, it’s time to stop. Chocolate can cause diarrhea, dehydration and even high blood pressure. -
Caffeine
Just like chocolate, caffeine and products with caffeine (like fizzy drinks and tea) have the same kind of effect on dogs. It can make them incredibly sick, restless or agitated and the best way to avoid it is to keep it away from them. -
Dried Fruits
Whether it’s the dried fruits themselves or if they’re mixed in with cakes and pie, it is not good for your dog. The toxic substance that causes the problem is still unknown, but it can cause kidney failure or sometimes worse. Hide all raisins and grapes at the earliest. -
Macadamia Nuts
While nuts themselves are dangerous for dogs because of the high fat content, it’s the macadamia nuts that should be kept far away from your dogs. They can cause vomiting, tremors and so much worse for your dog. -
Xylitol
The artificial sweetener that is used in sweets, cakes, chewing gum and even toothpaste works like a laxative for humans. But for dogs, the excess of xylitol kick starts a rapid release of insulin, which affects the amount of glucose in your dog’s blood and this can affect the liver and cause seizures. -
Milk & Dairy Products
Summer is here and the temptation to let your dog have a taste of your ice cream might be high. But don’t do it! Dogs do not have enough of the enzyme lactase that breaks down the lactose in milk and it could cause diarrhea and other digestive problems. -
Bones
First of all, remember that dogs can choke on bones and it can also damage their teeth. Avoid giving them cooked bones and if you do let them chew on a bone, keep an eye on them to make sure that they do not swallow or consume the bone as a whole.
